Shabazz Palaces is het hiphopduo uit Seattle van Ishmael Butler en Tendai Maraire. QUAZARZ: BORN ON A GANGSTER STAR verscheen op 14 juli 2017 bij Sub Pop, gelijktijdig met het zusteralbum Quazarz vs. The Jealous Machines. Het is een conceptalbum rond het personage Quazarz, een buitenstaander die de hedendaagse, door technologie en status gedreven cultuur observeert. Muzikaal bouwt de plaat voort op de experimentele koers van het duo met abstracte ritmes, elektronische texturen, percussie en spaarzaam ingezette raps. De productie ligt bij de groep en hun vaste kring. Samen met de zusterplaat vormt het een tweeluik binnen hun oeuvre.
