Blood, sweat and tears rock, that’s how LiveXS described Utrecht’s Tenement Kids in 2008 after the release of their debut album We’ve All Been Down. Influences from blues, soul, southern and classic rock slowly crept into the songs, with which the sound evolved into a more adventurous, musical and idiosyncratic whole. For the second album of Tenement Kids, the band went into the studio with producers John Morand (The Black Crowes, Sparklehorse, Lamb Of God) and Sven Lens (Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg, Nelly Furtado). The road to that was an intensive one, both in terms of writing new songs and in terms of shows. Venues such as Melkweg, Paradiso, 013 and Effenaar were visited as support for The Gaslight Anthem, Alkaline Trio and The Living End, among others. Tenement Kids also played at festivals such as Groezrock, Paaspop and Huntenpop. Great shows for a band with roots in punk rock, but the hunger for new musical paths kept growing. Where that path eventually led can be heard on the self-titled Tenement Kids, the band’s second album, on which influences from Bruce Springsteen, The Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd resonate. Authentic rock with a sultry hint of Americana, with which Tenement Kids claims a place among bands such as The Gaslight Anthem, Drive-By Truckers and The Hold Steady. Tracklist: 01.
