The Boomtown Rats, een Ierse rockband die vooral actief was in de late jaren zeventig, bracht in 1978 het album *A Tonic For The Troops* uit. Dit album, het tweede in hun discografie, bevat een mix van new wave en punk-invloeden, een stijl die typerend was voor die periode. Het album werd positief ontvangen en bevat onder andere nummers die later tot de klassiekers van de band behoren. *A Tonic For The Troops* liet zien dat de Boomtown Rats zich konden handhaven na hun debuut en hielp hen hun positie binnen het Britse muzieklandschap te versterken.
