Tess Merlot realized early on, when she wrote her own songs for the first time, that French chanson has a unique way of giving shape to feelings of sorrow, joy, and nostalgia. For her second album Chante la vie, she searched for words and melodies to express new changes in her life: the disappearance of her childhood home and the connection to her early years, the loss of a loved one, and the fleeting nature of friendships. But also the positive aspects of personal growth, the evolution of a long-lasting love, and the realization that, even as adults, we continue to take leaps into the unknown. Chante la vie features several singles. Ma maison / Ons huis received extensive airplay on NPO Radio 2 and 5, becoming the youngest single ever to reach number 1 on Radio West’s Eeuwige Roem chart. Rien à perdre was the 2023 Radio Tour de France hit on NPO Radio 1 and spent weeks on NPO Radio 5’s playlist. With the duet Je n’ai plus 20 ans, Tess appeared alongside Ben Cramer in January 2024 on shows including Tijd voor Max and Shownieuws.
