Mantra can be summed up in two words as psychedelic grunge. Thick bass lines and a relentless groove on the drums form the basis for the two guitarists to build up a delicious tension with cleverly constructed riffs and melodic licks. The foursome seemingly effortlessly plays with dynamics and dares to both seek out silence and go full-on rock mode, resulting in total audience chaos. The raw vocals, screeching guitars and sometimes dark, personal subjects make you easily drift off to the rain-swept coast of Seattle some 25 years ago. However, these guys weren’t born yet when Kurt met his end and have no other musical message than their own contemporary one. A psy-grunge band consisting of four mischievous friends. Starting out in obscure pubs in Haarlem, they gradually worked their way up to performances in Paradiso, the Melkweg, Mainstage Bevrijdingspop and a sold-out Palmtra show in the Patronaat. In 2016, the band won the Rob Acda Award.
